SCARBOROUGH — Monique Y. Roberge, 92, of Scarborough, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at her home.

She was born Jan. 21, 1924, in Montreal, Canada, a daughter of Alexandre and Annette (Chartier) Conan, and was educated there at the St. Alphonse D’Youville School. She came to this area in 1952. On Nov. 29, 1952, she married Gaston J. Roberge in Montreal.

Monique was an insurance agent who also owned and operated the Diplomat Motel with her husband in Old Orchard Beach. From 1969 until 1974, she and her husband established and operated the first Burger King restaurant in Maine on Allen Avenue in Portland.

An independent woman, she enjoyed taking care of her own business affairs.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Gaston Roberge, to whom she was very devoted, in 2002; three sisters, Francoise, Marie Paule and Gisele Conan; and a brother, Maurice Conan.

She is survived by: one sister, Jacqueline Mongeau of Montreal; two nieces, Laure and Louise; and a nephew, Sylvain.

Visiting hours will be 9-10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anne’s Chapel of St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
