Col. Douglas A. Farnham, the Wing Commander of the 101st Air Refueling Wing, Bangor Air National Guard, has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.

Gov. Paul LePage officially promoted Farnham, who was recently confirmed by the Maine Senate as the state’s new adjutant general and commissioner of the Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management.

Farnham replaces acting Adjutant General, Brigadier General Gerard Bolduc, who in December withdrew his name from consideration for the permanent Adjutant General post. Bolduc had replaced Brigadier General James Campell, who was dismissed by LePage in March.

“Brigadier General Farnham has selflessly served our country for more than 30 years, and I thank him for his dedication and leadership,” LePage said in a statement.

A graduate of Brewer High School and the Air Force Academy, Farnham is also president and fourth-generation owner of Getchell Bros. Inc., a family-owned packaged ice company that was established in 1888.
