BRUNSWICK — The Town Council on Feb. 1 changee the rules regulating inspections of chicken coops in the town’s residential neighborhoods.

Homeowners are now allowed to keep up to six licensed, domesticated chickens. Residents must pay for a one-time inspection by the animal control officer before being issued a building permit for a chicken coop.

The council voted to change the current structure, which involves inspections to keep annual licenses, to a two-year licensing period without inspections. The cost of a two-year license is now $25, up from $10.
