World Community Arts Day

For the fifth year Raymond Elementary School will be celebrating “World Community Arts Day” by devoting the entire day of March 16 to creating art of any kind.

On this day, students and staff will participate in a variety of artistic activities. The goal is to bring community and school together through the arts. In order to make this day successful, the community’s help is needed. Community artists and craftspeople are invited to come to the school and lead workshops from creative movement to drama, to poetry to storytelling. If you are creative, or you know anyone who is creative or artistic, could you pass their name and contact information on to Jennifer Mains at jenm0408@gmail.com.

They are looking for volunteers who may be interested in leading a workshop in any of the following areas, but not limited to pottery, drama, photography, poetry, dance, theater, comedian, painting, collaging, jewelry making, sculpting and snow sculpting, story telling, stone carving, musicians, movement, visual arts, printmaking, hula hoping, snow shoeing and kinesthetic movement.

Raymond Fire-Rescue gets federal grant

In January 2016 the Raymond Fire-Rescue Department received a grant from the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters to replace and upgrade the department’s water supply hose and appliances. The grant in the amount of $74,000 and required the town to match $3,700.

A new 5-inch diameter supply line will increase the department’s capabilities, making it interoperable with the majority of mutual aid departments, Chief Bruce Tupper said. It replaces the 4-inch, mostly 20-year-old hose in use. A hose roller and turntable will help assure physical safety of firefighters who need to handle the heavy hose.

The grant proposal was coordinated by Deputy Chief Cathy Gosselin, and was a team effort.

Ms. Cummings second-grade class at Raymond Elementary School made the WCSH Channel 6 News last week. The class spent a couple of weeks before the New England Patriots’ final playoff game studying football, the Pats and the rules of football. Their prediction was that the Pats would win 100 to nothing, which unfortunately didn’t happen. You can view the kids at the Raymond Schools’ PTO Facebook page.
