• Calling All Artists, located next to the front Circulation Desk in the New Boston Art Gallery, is a space dedicated to showing the work of local artists. Since its inception, community members have exhibited photographs, paintings and even fabric designs. Shows are displayed for approximately six weeks and the only condition is that it must be appropriate for all ages. Apart from that, the potential for the space is as limitless as your imagination. Ice fishing derby change

With ice safety the main concern, the Crystal Lake Ice Fishing Derby has been postponed to Saturday, Feb. 13, at Camp Gregory, 24 North Raymond Road in Gray. The primary mission of the derby is to support the Maine military, Maien Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and local community schools by hosting the best Maine outdoor event.

This event features an All ages Derby, Kids Derby, Polar Plunge, Ice Shanty Competition, Yellow Ribbon Tent and Kid Zone. For more information, go to www.crystallakederby.com.

Gray Recreation events

Gray Recreation is hosting aFebruary Vacation Camp, Feb. 16-19, from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m.. It will be held at the Newbegin Gym and Rec Room for students in grades K-6. Fun morning activities and trips are planned.

Total Body Conditioning, on Tuesdays starting Feb. 9-March 29, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the G-NG Middle School Gym. During this Total Body Conditioning class you will hit multiple muscle groups and burn calories in a workout that is designed to strengthen the cardiovascular system, tone muscles and boost balance, flexibility and endurance. The class is great for all abilities as you work to the best of your ability on each exercise. The class will use your own bodyweight, gliding discs and other progressions for each exercise. Just $5 per class and the first class is free.

Home Alone Safety for Kids is Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Gray Town Hall Council Chambers, 3:30-5 p.m. Designed for fourth-sixth graders who may be staying home alone, participants will talk about and find solutions to a variety of “home alone” issues including food preparation, safe Internet and phone usage and stranger danger. Basic first aid skills, identifying potential hazards, and what to do in an emergency will also be discussed. Participants will make a snack as part of the class. $15.

AudioBody, Saturday, Feb. 27, at the G-NG High School, 6:30 p.m. AudioBody is a one-of-a-kind performance, created by Matthew and Jason Tardy, that combines physical comedy, cutting-edge technology, and live music. It has been described as the “Blue Man Group meets a modern-day Smother’s Brothers.” Advance purchase admission tickets are available in the Recreation Department office for $7 per person. $9 at the door $9 (children 3 and under free). Ticket sales help Gray Recreation to raise money to purchase new equipment.

Coming soon are Junior Indoor Soccer League, Valentine’s Day Co-ed Pickleball Tournament, Zumba for Kids.

New Lion

The Gray-New Gloucester Lions Club welcomed a new member, Matt Kuchinski, at their December meeting. Matt is a second generation Lion joining his parents, John and Christina Kuchinski, and 15 other dedicated Lions in community service.

While the primary mission of Lions is service for the blind and visually impaired, Lions also provide scholarships, conduct speaking contests, run blood drives, assist with eyeglasses and hearing aids and many other activities and services for the local community.

Lions meet at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday each month at the Congregational Church Parish Hall (behind McDonald’s). Public-spirited members of the Gray-New Gloucester communities are always welcome to attend and, hopefully, join the Lions in service to our shared community.

Introductory cross country skiing offered

Fresh Tracks is an introductory cross country skiing club, open to all students in fifth-eighth grade who have limited-to-no cross country skiing experience. The club will be a great way to discover a new sport and a lifelong passion.

Equipment including boots, skis, and poles, will be provided through the SAD 15 PEP Grant. Students will practice their skills and hone them on the beautiful Libby Hill trail system. Club will meet on Thursdays from 2-4 p.m., Feb. 4- 25. Transportation is available with the activity bus at 4:30 p.m. To register, go to http://www.msad15.org/.

Gray-New Gloucester Adult and Community Education has just released their Winter/Spring 2016 brochure. A .pdf of the catalog is available for browsing on their website, and online registration is also open at www.gngadulted.org. You should have a print brochure in your mailbox.

Events such as Party Painter Watercolor Night at Cole Farms, where you join Artist Kellie Chasse for a fun and relaxing night of painting with the option to order food and beverages, from a limited menu. The first night is Monday, Feb. 1, 6-8 p.m., subject “Winter Cabin.” Fee $35. Classes such as Storing Memories, Back Yard Sugaring, Hunter’s safety, CPR, Self Defense, Tai Chi, Tax Free Investing, SAT Test Prep and many health career program, to name a few, are also available.

Snow lovers unite

Gray Sno Wolves Snowmobile Club’s next meeting for the 2015-16 season is on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 7 p.m. at the State Police Barracks on Route 26. For more infromation, go to www.graysnowolves.com.

Late fee coming

All dogs in Gray must be registered annually by Dec. 31. Please bring your dog’s current rabies certificate with you at the time of registration. Fees for neutered or spayed dogs are $6 per year. Non-neutered or non-spayed dogs are $11 per year. A $25 late fee will be charged after Jan. 31.
