Adopt hydrant
this winter
The Yarmouth highway department crew is responsible for clearing snow away from 291 hydrants around town.
In order to perform this task as quickly as possible, the crew is asking residents to adopt a hydrant and volunteer to keep it clear of snow through the winter.
For more information, contact Erik S. Street, director of Public Works, at 846-2401.
Mailbox replacement
In the event that a mailbox is damaged by the town during winter operations, residents can call 846-2401 to report it. A highway department representative will come out to evaluate the damage. If it is determined that the department is responsible, either repairs will be made to the existing box and/or post, or a temporary box and post will be placed in service for the winter. Permanent repairs will be made in the spring.
The town of Yarmouth replaces all mailboxes and posts with a standard design. The total value of the standard box and post is $45 ($30 for the post and $15 for the box). For more information or to report a damaged mailbox or post, call846-2401.

Library seeks
planning input
Merrill Memorial Library has begun a strategic planning process to determine what people want from their library. A Strategic Planning Committee has been formed and has been meeting through the past four months. Focus groups and interviews are being conducted with community organizations to identify possible opportunities for the library.
The library now has created a survey for Yarmouth residents and library patrons from other communities. The survey can be accessed online at www.yarmouthlibrary.org, and paper copies are available at the library and Town Hall. All residents, including school-age children, are encouraged to take the survey. The deadline is Monday, Feb. 15.
