Five people have been charged in connection with a Jan. 8 burglary and robbery of a general store in Burnham in which the store’s owner was knocked to the ground, police said Monday.
In addition to Davide Pedone, who was arrested Jan. 15 on a charge of robbery, the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office has also arrested John Ryan Jr., 19, of Fairfield; Matthew Shaw, 19, of Hartland; and Sarah Chase, 18, of Burnham. They are each charged with robbery, burglary and theft, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Michael McGregor, 22, of Pittsfield, has also been charged with burglary and theft, according to the news release.
The five are accused of burglarizing Patterson’s General Store in Burnham and knocking the store owner to the ground as they fled the scene. The charges for some of those accused were elevated to robbery because of the use of force, according to police.
Detective Gerry Lincoln, the lead investigator in the case, said the estimated cost to the store from the burglary was $4,500, including stolen merchandise and cash and damage to a security system that the group tried to disable.
Among the stolen goods were cartons of cigarettes and smokeless tobacco, lighters and alcohol, Lincoln said.
