A Waterboro man has been charged with theft by deception after he allegedly accepted payment for car parts he advertised online but then never sent the items to the buyer.
According to the York County Sheriff’s Department, a man from Illinois contacted deputies and said he had purchased $300 worth of auto parts advertised on Craigslist by Scott T. Depeter, 43, who owns Airport Auto Body on Main Street in Waterboro. Deputies reviewed text messages between the Illinois man and Depeter and confirmed that a wire transfer of $300 had been made for the parts, the sheriff’s office said.
Depeter was arrested Friday, the sheriff’s office said. He was booked at the York County Jail and released on $350 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 26.
