Scarborough police are still “struggling with a motive,” for “a fairly rare” home invasion and shooting that took place in the early morning hours Monday, according to Chief Robbie Moulton.

The shooting victim, Bruce Glidden, 47, who was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, was “upgraded to good condition,” Tuesday, according to Moulton, who said the police are continuing to investigate the incident.

Moulton would not say what evidence has been collected so far, but did say, “We are interviewing everyone, all the family members, neighbors, anyone and everyone,” adding that at this point, “we are not ruling anything in or out.”

What police have said is that the incident appears to be intentional and not random. According to police, Glidden was asleep at the time of the attack and did not get a look at the shooter.

In addition to Glidden, who was asleep on a sofa, police said his wife Amy and their two young children were also at home and asleep at the time of the shooting.

According to police, the shooter entered the Glidden home, on Ash Swamp Road, through an unlocked door. Authorities said the family was first alerted to the intruder by the gunfire.

Police say the shooter fled the scene immediately following the incident and while Moulton said this appears to be a “targeted event,” members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious.

Glidden is an owner at Glidden Roofing Corp., which is based in Scarborough’s industrial park.

Moulton said police are still in “information-gathering mode” and anyone with information is asked to call the the police department at 883-6361 or use the anonymous crime tip hotline at 730-4386.
