The Westbrook police and school departments are holding a forum Thursday to discuss the city’s heroin problem.

Police and school officials will be joined by 30 other community partners for a conversation about efforts underway to address substance abuse in the city.

The event is scheduled for 6-7:30 p.m. at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church at 810 Main St.

The entire state has seen a recent increase in heroin use.

Westbrook’s public safety and school officials held a news conference last month to talk about their approach for combating the problem, which resulted in 30 overdoses in the city last year.

The plan included training police to administer Narcan, the drug that reduces the effects of an overdose, and holding a series of community forums, beginning with the one on Thursday.
