What sounded like a dramatic event – a mid-January water rescue – turned out to be not much of anything, Saco firefighters said Friday.

Lt. Jerry Beaulieu said a caller reported that a woman had fallen through the ice near Cascade Falls late Friday afternoon when she tried to rescue her dogs, who also had fallen into the Cascade Brook.

But Beaulieu said that by the time firefighters arrived, including the water rescue team, the woman had gotten out of the waist-deep water and was back to her walk on a trail near the falls. All three of her dogs were with her and were fine, he said.

Beaulieu said the stream was fast-moving where the woman was and the only ice on the brook was near the edges.
