A Limington woman died early Monday morning in a single-car crash on Route 25 in Standish.
At about 5:25 a.m., deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and members of Standish Fire/EMS responded to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Ossipee Trail West (Route 25) and Hummingbird Lane in Standish.
According to Capt. Don Goulet, a yellow 2015 Subaru XVcross was traveling east on Route 25, left the roadway and struck a telephone pole. The lone female occupant, Susan Jensen, 59, of Limington, was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office is investigating and reconstructing the crash.
No criminal charges are expected. The medical examiner is investigating the possibility of a medical episode leading up to the crash, according to Goulet. It is believed that icy road conditions were a factor in the crash.
According to data from the Maine Department of Transportation, there have been four fatal crashes in Standish on Route 25 from 2010-2015. The most recent crash is the fifth fatality on this stretch of road since 2010.
Although the intersection where Monday’s fatality occurred is not considered a high-crash location, the intersection of Manchester Road and Ossipee Trail West, less than one mile down the road, is.
According to DOT data, there were 13 crashes at the Manchester and Ossipee Trail intersection between 2012 and 2014. The intersection received a critical rate factor of 3.07; generally, a high-crash location is indicated by a rate factor over 1.00.
Talbot said if citizens have concerns about a particular road or intersection they may initiate a request for a traffic study with the Town Council.
“If the town comes to us with a concern on their behalf, we are happy to entertain the request,” he said.
