The Crystal Lake Ice Fishing Derby, originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 30, has been postponed to Saturday, Feb. 13, due to lack of ice on Crystal Lake in Gray.

“I know this may cause conflicts with many people however our main concern is safety,” event organizer Joe Hansen posted on the event’s Facebook page Friday afternoon.

The derby, with sponsors such as L.L. Bean and Poland Spring, supports the USO, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and Gray-New Gloucester schools. It has been delayed or canceled due to lack of ice several times in its history.
