The Durham Town Office hours are Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 8: 30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; closed Wednesday; and Thursday, 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. For more information, call 353-2561. Town Hall will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18, to observe Martin Luther King Jr. day. Regular business hours resume on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Community Lunch

set for next Tuesday

The next Durham Community Lunch is Tuesday, Jan. 19, at First Congregational Church of Durham, located at the intersection of routes 9 and 136. Doors open at 11:30, and lunch is served at noon. The menu is turkey casserole, salad, rolls and homemade desserts. The general schedule is the first and third Tuesday of the month. The suggested donation for lunch is $2 to $4, and 100 percent of the proceeds fund future lunches.

The church is handicapped accessible. The book club book is “The Kitchen House,” by Kathleen Grissom, and the discussion about it is scheduled for the next lunch, Feb. 2.

Nomination papers

now available

Durham’s annual town meeting is Saturday, April 2, and municipal elections are Friday, April 1. Nomination papers are now available at the Town Office to fill the following seats: Two, three-year terms for the Board of Selectmen; three, three-year terms for the Budget Committee; and one, three-year term on the Regional School Unit 5 board.

Any resident of Durham can visit the Town Office to collect the form to gather at least 25 and no more than 100 Durham residents’ signatures to be placed on official ballot. Nomination papers need to be completed and filed with the Town Office on or before Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 4:30 p.m.

Absentee ballots will be available Tuesday, March 1. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Monday, March 28.

Snowmobile club

Tri-Town Penguins Snowmobile Club meets the last Tuesday of the month through April, at 7 p.m., at the Durham Fire Station, 615 Hallowell Road in Durham. The next meeting is Jan. 26. New members are always welcome. For more information, contact Duncan Daly at 865-6188 or Mike Yates at 865-3555.

Couponing sessions

Couponing for the Community meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Eureka Community Center. It is a chance to learn couponing basics from Pat Provost, who also shows members how to use some of their coupons to benefit families in the community and military families overseas. Weekly cribbage

The Durham Eureka Community Center, corner of Route 9 and Route 136, hosts cribbage every Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon.

Rent Eureka Center

The Durham Eureka Community Center is available for rent. The maximum amount of people the hall holds for an event is 50. Contact Nancy Decker at 751-1323 or the Town Office at 353-2561.

Food pantry

The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach (LACO) food pantry, which serves the towns of Durham, Bowdoin, and Lisbon Falls, is open Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m.-noon and Saturday from 8-10 a.m. The LACO Food Pantry is located at the Marion T. Morse School on School Street, Lisbon Falls. The parking lot is behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church, off Berry Avenue. There is also a free clothing bank. The First Congregational Church of Durham UCC, 773 Royalsborough Road, holds Sunday worship at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Peter Mercer.
