Gov. Paul LePage’s racially charged remarks have been turned into a song.

Maine rapper Spose was making lunch for three of his four young children Friday at his home in Wells when he decided to turn the governor’s words into a remix.

At a town hall meeting Wednesday night in Bridgton, LePage said: “These are guys with the name Dee Money, Smoothie, Shifty – these types of guys – they come from Connecticut and New York, they come up here, they sell their heroin, they go back home. Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young white girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue we have to deal with down the road.”

Spose, 30, whose real name is Ryan Peters, said he was looking at Facebook and saw how everyone was “spazzing out about LePage.”

“So instead of posting a status about it I, decided to make a trap remix, because why not?” Spose said. (Trap is a type of Southern hip-hop.) Spose grabbed the audio of LePage’s remarks from YouTube, created beats using a keyboard and drum machine, and uploaded “Paul LePage Heroin White Girls D-Money Trap Remix” to the website Soundcloud.

He said he debated rapping on it as “D-Money,” but decided against out of concern it could be interpreted as racist.
