With billions of dollars in merchandise sales, the empire of the “Star Wars” franchise is an unstoppable force. A Jedi craves not these things, but “Star Wars” fans buy them in droves. Bed sheets, lunch boxes, Lego sets, action figures, lightsabers, costumes – there is an ever-increasing number of ways for fans to express their love with “Star Wars” goods.
The rarer items fetch staggering prices on eBay and are kept in pristine, unopened condition, while others have seen more than their fair share of playtime as scenes are re-enacted by adoring fans, young and old alike.

TOM LONG, 40, PORTLAND
Favorite scene: In “The Empire Strikes Back,” when Han Solo uses Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber to cut open a tauntaun and puts Luke inside to keep him warm.
Favorite line: “Do or do not, there is no try.” – Yoda, “The Empire Strikes Back”
Favorite collectible: A Boba Fett action figure obtained through a Kenner promotional offer in advance of “The Empire Strikes Back.” Long sent in proof-of-purchase seals and received a figure of the bounty hunter in return.
MILES, 5, PORTLAND
Favorite scene: The Darth Vader/Luke Skywalker duel in “Return of the Jedi.”
Favorite line: “As you wish.” – Boba Fett, “The Empire Strikes Back”
Favorite collectible: A snowspeeder from “The Empire Strikes Back,” part of father Will Stewart’s huge collection of vintage and new toys, books, records and posters.

Favorite scene: When Han Solo is frozen in carbonite in “The Empire Strikes Back.”
Favorite line: “It’s a trap!” – Admiral Ackbar, “Return of the Jedi.”
Favorite collectible: An Obi-Wan Kenobi costume and lightsaber. Carro dresses as the young Jedi from “Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” at costume play events several times a year.
