Westbrook has hosted one of the wrestling season’s first big tournaments for the past few winters, and this year was no different: More than a dozen teams descended on the school Saturday, Dec. 5, with Skowhegan emerging as the big winner. The Blazes themselves, an up-and-coming team, finished sixth.

“I thought overall the team wrestled well,” said Westbrook co-head coach John Nicholas. “It was good to get two kids into the finals of a tough tournament. Chris (Kennie, 285 pounds) is the first Westbrook champ we’ve had in a few years, so that was special. We have some things to work on this week to get ready to defend our Tiger Tournament championship from last year.”
