Two men from Brooklyn, New York, were arrested Friday evening and charged with murder in connection with an early morning shooting on Center Street in Bangor.

Police responding to a 911 call around 3:30 a.m. Friday found one man dead and another man injured in an apartment at 201 Center St., said Sgt. Tim Cotton, spokesman for the Bangor Police Department.

Robert Hansley, 27, and Thomas Ferguson, 37, were taken into custody around 6:30 p.m. Friday following a traffic stop on Hammond Street, Cotton said. Both were charged with murder and elevated aggravated assault.

Investigators had received information that Hansley and Ferguson were passengers in the vehicle, Cotton said. Whether the driver or other occupants of the vehicle are involved in the case is under investigation.

“We’re very happy to have these two individuals in custody,” Cotton said Friday night.

Hansley and Ferguson were expected to be held at the Penobscot County Jail pending an initial court appearance as early as Monday, Cotton said.

Police are withholding the victims’ names until an autopsy is completed on the deceased man, possibly on Sunday, Cotton said. The second man successfully underwent surgery for gunshot wounds at a Bangor hospital, he said.

Why Hansley and Ferguson traveled to Bangor is unclear, Cotton said. Police continue to interview witnesses and follow up on leads in the case.

Investigators remained at the scene through Friday afternoon, collecting evidence. Cotton wouldn’t say whether police had recovered a gun or guns used in the shooting.
