A Wells High School student will help cut the ribbon that marks the start of the traditional Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

The student, Adrienne Perron, will get an assist in cutting the ribbon from well known NBC meteorologist and television personality Al Roker, according to a message posted late Wednesday evening on the Wells Ogunquit Community School District’s Facebook page.

The Portland Press Herald reported earlier this year that Perron, a Wells High School color guard flag performer, color guard dancer Anna Libby, squad member Mallory Cashman and squad director Bailey Smith had been invited to perform in the parade.

The parade is set to air on NBC at 9 a.m. Thursday. The Wells High School team will perform as members of Macy’s Great American Marching Band, an all-star assemblage of musicians, flag bearers and dancers from across the country.

Perron, 17, is a senior at Wells High School. The teams arrived Nov. 20 in New York City to be trained and fitted with uniforms. Each student had to raise $1,700 to participate in the parade.
