Gorham assembled a number of admirable runs into the postseason this fall, looking traditionally strong on the soccer pitch, where Tim King’s boys went 12-1-1 in the regular season to earn the No. 2 slot in the A South bracketing. Cheverus, continuing to ride a wave of playoffs magic, upset the Rams 2-1 in the quarters, however.

Jeanne Zarilli’s girls, 11-3 in the regular season for the No. 3 tournament seed, drove even further into the postseason – all the way to States, in fact. They bested No. 11 Thornton 1-0 in the quarters and upset No. 2 Scarborough 2-1 in the semis to face off with Marshwood in the A South Final, where they dispatched the Hawks with shocking ease, 4-0. Against A North reps Bangor, however, they came up just a bit short, falling 2-0 and returning to the sidelines with no gold ball in hand.

Anna Slager and Jesse Southard, as expected, stirred up the biggest news on the cross country trails. Slager won the individual girls state crown, and Southard took third on the boys’ side. As a team, the Gentlemen Rams finished 10th. Both Slager and Southard went on to run for Maine at New Englands.

Football finished 0-8 in B South – Gorham has struggled on the gridiron for some time now. Similarly, field hockey, though they went 4-9-1 in the regular season and squeaked into the playoffs ranked 11th, faced a frustrating finish to the year. The Lady Rams succumbed to No. 6 Marshwood 2-1 in the prelims.

Nicole Rizzo’s volleyballers compiled a respectable 6-8 record through the regular season, and thus won entry to the bracketing at No. 11. They battled admirably against No. 6 Windham in the prelims, but ultimately fell in five sets.
