PORTLAND — William C. Day, 40, of Saco, pleaded guilty Friday in U.S. District Court to pharmacy robbery, according to an email statement from the U.S. Attorney’s office.
According to court documents, on Aug. 10 Day entered Community Pharmacy on Main Street in Saco, vaulted the counter at the back of the store and demanded that employees give him narcotic drugs. Saco Police Department officers, responding to a silent alarm, spotted Day running from the pharmacy with the drugs. They chased him to a location near School Street where they arrested Day and recovered most of the stolen drugs.
Day faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine .
He will be sentenced at a later date after completion of a pre-sentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
Day has been held without bail since his arrest.
The Saco Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case.
