Awards and honors
Bowdoin College, Brunswick: The following area students were named Sarah and James Bowdoin Scholars for academic excellence and are in the top 20 percent of their class for the previous academic year: Allie Briggs and William Britton III, both of Cape Elizabeth; Charlie Gerrity, Cumberland; Isaac Merson and Meredith Stanhope, both of Falmouth; Austin Downing and Marisa O’Toole, both of Scarborough.
Keene (N.H.) State College: President’s Scholarships for academic excellence have been awarded to Alexandra Tolan of South Portland and Lydia St. Pierre of South Berwick. The annual award is $8,000 for full-time out-of-state students and is renewable annually. Jessica Macias of Topsham was among 181 first-year students who received a Dean’s Scholarship this year.
Maine Maritime Academy, Castine: The following area students were honored at the recent Academic Achievement Awards banquet. Scheel Scholars, named for the late Henry A. Scheel of Rockport, one of America’s most respected naval architects and yacht designers: Peter Barton, Cape Elizabeth; Elin Sonesson, Cape Elizabeth; Haley Turnbull, Kittery. American Bureau of Shipping Scholars: Foster Blake, Gorham; Catherine Bailey, Scarborough; Elin Sonesson,Cape Elizabeth. They receive a scholarship in each of the final two years of their studies at MMA and have an opportunity to complete an internship at ABS.
Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania: Renee Lessard of Arundel was recently honored as a University Scholar.
