Officers from Scarborough police’s Special Enforcement Unit arrested an unregistered sex offender Thursday morning who was harboring drugs and stolen guns.
Through investigation with the department’s Sex Offender Specialist police determined that Bryan Keith Garcia, 33, was residing at 168 Holmes Road and had failed to register as a sex offender. He is a lifetime registrant for two counts of sexual abuse of a minor, police said.
Thursday at 7 a.m., Scarborough police served a search warrant on the residence in order to prove Garcia was living there. During the course of the search Garcia was located along with documentation proving he was living at the residence. Also located in Garcia’s possession were four cell phones, eight USB data storage drives, two computers, two loaded semi-automatic 40 caliber pistols, a police-style vest with a badge on it, black face mask, drugs and $19,275 in cash wrapped in $1,000 bundles. One handgun was found in Garcia’s vehicle and equipped with a light and laser site. The other gun, found in his bedroom, had been reported as stolen from Portland.
Garcia has been arrested and charged with Class B failure to register as a sex offender (fifth offense), Class B theft by receiving stolen property (firearm), Class C possession of firearm by a felon and Class D unlawful possession of Schedule W drugs (adderall, a stimulant).
