Right-handed starting pitcher Clay Buchholz is coming back to Boston for the 2016 season. The Red Sox announced Tuesday that they are picking up the contract option on Buchholz for next season.

The option is reportedly worth $13 million.

Buchholz, 31, experienced another injury-shortened season in 2015, going on the disabled list on July 11 with an elbow strain. He did not pitch again. Buchholz went 7-7 with a 3.26 ERA, with 107 strikeouts in 113 innings.

Buchholz’s current contract ran for four seasons, from 2012 through 2015, for $30 million. The deal contains two club options – for 2016, and a $13.5-million option for 2017.
