Political newcomer Marla Stelk unseated a sitting Gorham Town Councilor, while incumbent Sherrie Benner held onto her seat Tuesday.
Four candidates ran for the two open seats.
Benner and Shonn Moulton faced challenges from Muhammad Khan, an 18-year-old college student, and Stelk, 45, a policy analyst for the Association of Wetland Managers.
Stelk garnered the most votes with 1,269, followed by Benner with 1,210, then Moulton with 1,135 and Khan with 779.
Benner, 55, a real estate agent, was first elected to the council in 2012.
Moulton, 39, served on the council from 2006 to 2009, then again, starting in 2012.
Khan hoped to give a voice to the town’s young people, namely Gorham High School and University of Southern Maine students.
Stelk said she believes the town would benefit from her expertise to plan for its ongoing growth.
With 50 votes, Sean Curran won as a write-in candidate to fill a one-year vacancy on the Gorham School Committee, for which no one submitted nomination papers.
Also on the ballot were school board members Darryl Wright and Timothy Burns, who were running uncontested.
