An incumbent city councilor and a school board member in Westbrook were unseated by challengers Tuesday.
Anna Turcotte defeated incumbent Paul Emery, as well as Susan Rossignol, to represent Ward 3 on the City Council.
In the race for Ward 1 School Committee seat, Steven Berry squeaked by incumbent Alex Stone, 277-270.
Berry, 53, is a long-time parent-teacher organization member.
Stone, 42, a recruiter, has served on the School Committee for the past eight years.
In a two-way race for an at-large council seat, John O’Hara, the longest-serving member of the council, narrowly defeated Michael Dobkowski, an Internet marketing specialist, 1,242 to 1,180.
O’Hara, 57, is the facilities manager at the Portland International Jetport.
For an at-large seat on the Westbrook School Committee, political newcomer Matthew Brunner challenged incumbent Sue Salisbury, who won, 1,269 to 1,039.
Brunner, 43, is a financial planner. Salisbury, 45, is a fraud investigator at L.L. Bean.
In the Ward 1 race, Turcotte, a bank vice president, received 308 votes, soundly defeating Rossignol and Emery after a controversial year for the councilor.
The other members of the council passed a resolution in May asking Emery to resign for suggesting – during a public forum held by state Democratic leaders – that Gov. Paul LePage should be assassinated.
Emery said the comments were meant as a joke and apologized, but did not step down.
Emery, 73, a Realtor, received 88 votes and Rossignol, the city’s former finance director, received 83 votes.
Also on the ballot was Gary Rairdon, who ran unopposed for re-election to his Ward 4 seat.
School board members Veronica Bates and James Violette, who ran unopposed, were re-elected to their seats in wards 2 and 5, respectively.
