Packing gifts for kids

An Operation Christmas Child packing party will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Deering Center Community Church, 4 Brentwood St.

Volunteers are needed to pack gift-filled shoeboxes for needy children around the world. There will be a pizza supper and a video showing of Billy Graham’s “Value of a Soul.” The event is free.

The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host free Essentials of College Planning workshops for adults 19 and older at the following times and locations:

Seven pianists to perform

Seven pianists from the studio of Laura Kargul at the University of Southern Maine will present the Piano Extravaganza at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, 425 Congress St.

The pianists will perform the works of Chopin, Debussy, Ravel, Medtner and Liszt.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. They are available at firstparishportland.org and at the door.

Support for Maine soldiers

The Elizabeth Wadsworth Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Atrium at Cedars, 640 Ocean Ave.

Capt. Adam Cole with the Maine National Guard will present a program about the chapter’s support for Maine soldiers deployed overseas at the breakfast buffet and business meeting.

Look for dinosaurs at library

Kennebunk Free Library will host Dinovember! this month at 112 Main St.

Children are invited to join in a dinosaur scavenger hunt in the Children’s Room each week of November. Children finding five dinosaurs will get a small prize. Dinosaurs will move each week, so children are encouraged to return to find the latest antics.

Parenting class on Friday

The next monthly parenting class will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Kennebunk Free Library, 112 Main St.

Fiber-themed activities
