According to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, Eugene “Charlie” Martineau, 24, was taken to the Cumberland County Jail after his arrest in Portland at about 3:30 p.m.
He is charged with the death of Leo Josephs, who died today at Maine Medical Center, McCausland said. The baby was brought to the hospital on Wednesday and was being treated for multiple injuries. An autopsy will take place at the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
Martineau will make his first court appearance on Monday in Cumberland County Superior Court. Working with State Police in the investigation was the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
