The Boston Red Sox announced Thursday that manager John Farrell’s cancer is in remission.

Farrell has been undergoing treatment for two months after being diagnosed with stage 1 Non-Hodgkins Burkitt lymphoma on Aug. 14.

Farrell, 43, underwent post-treatment testing Wednesday at Massachusetts General Hospital, and received the results Thursday.

“I am extremely thankful for the outpouring of support I have received from the Red Sox, my family, friends, and fans throughout this process,” said Farrell in a written press release. “I am also especially thankful for the talented doctors who cared for me in Detroit and here at MGH. I look forward to getting back to work and bringing another championship back to Boston.”

Dave Dombrowski, the Red Sox new President of Baseball Operations, recently announced that Farrell would return as Boston’s manager if his health allowed.

“We are thrilled to hear the great news about John today,” Dombrowski said Thursday in the same release. “Foremost, we are extremely happy for him and his family, knowing what he has gone through over the past two months. We all admire him for his strength and courage, and look forward to having him back as our manager.”
