Reject Question 1

Remember the bear-baiting flap last year? Mainers voted to keep out-of-staters’ noses out of Maine’s business. A similar thing is happening this year: Question 1,the so-called clean election bill, is on the ballot Nov. 3.

The bill purports to keep big money out of Maine politics and improve the disclosure of who pays for political ads. That’s a fantasy right there. I dare you to try to find out who contributes to the Maine People’s Alliance.

I don’t want fat cats from out of state messing with who governs Maine, just as I didn’t want strangers to Maine deciding our hunting laws. Question 1 says it will increase penalties for violations of campaign finance law. If you believe that, you may be interested in buying some inexpensive ocean frontage I’m selling.

Question 1 also uses taxpayer money to give to the candidates. I don’t want my money supporting people I don’t believe in and that’s just what Question 1 will do.

Think of it this way: Do you want to buy bumper stickers for a candidate you would never vote for? If a candidate is worth his salt, he can make the effort to find supporters.

Support Moulton in Gorham

As an active member of this great community, I am often asked to write a letter in support of someone or if I can be used as a reference for someone applying for a new job. This is something I do not take lightly as I know how important a reference might be in helping someone attain a certain goal. I would never write one or supply a reference for someone if I didn’t truly believe in them.

One person I truly believe in and know will always have our best interest in mind is Shonn Moulton. Shonn has served our community well for a number of years and I strongly believe he deserves re-election to the Gorham Town Council.

When it comes to electing local leaders I look to see if their actions speak louder then their words. Shonn has been an active member of our community, not only serving on the Town Council, but he also gets involved in community organizations, volunteering and coaching.

A person’s actions will tell you everything you need to know. I don’t believe in what he says. I believe in what he does to help make Gorham a great community to live and raise our children in.

Shonn and I might iffer on many “bigger” national issues, but I can respect and agree with him when it comes down to the grass-root issues. Issues about our safety, our schools and our kids, hometown issues that affect us on a local level.

I don’t trust words, I trust actions. I trust Shonn Moulton to do what is right for Gorham.

Please join me in voting Shonn Moulton for Gorham Town Council on Nov. 3.
