A Bridgton man was found dead late Monday evening in Peabody Pond after being reported missing from a fishing trip.
Mark H. Peters, 58, of Bridgton, who had left for a fishing trip at 10 a.m. Monday, was reported missing by his wife a little after 9 p.m. He was expected to return at dusk. His vehicle was located at the Peabody Pond boat launch in the town of Sebago by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a Maine Warden Service spokesman, a search of the pond was conducted by game wardens and a Cumberland County deputy. Peters’ submerged canoe was located at 11:30 p.m. on the Bridgton end of the pond. A short time later, his body was located floating about 12 feet from shore. A life jacket was recovered near his body but was not being worn. The case remains under investigation by the Maine Warden Service.
