If you drive route 111 and 202/4A on a regular basis, you may notice some adjustments in the speed limits in upcoming weeks.

The speed limits on some parts of the roadways are increasing about 5 mph. The change comes after a review by the Maine Department of Transportation. Old signs will be removed and new ones installed within the next several weeks, according to a notification to the City of Sanford of the change.

The review was requested by Maine State Police.

After conducting the review and meeting with law enforcement personnel, DOT engineers recommended new speed zones be established in a bid to maintain consistency in the zoning and provide increased safety. DOT Regional Engineer Kyle Hall, in correspondence with the City of Sanford, wrote that the recommendation for changes along the Route 111 corridor, from Arundel to the Route 202 intersection in Alfred, and Route 202/4A, from Alfred to near June Street in Sanford, included reviews of crash history, access points, test runs, law enforcement input and engineering judgment.

• Along Route 111 from Arundel to Lyman, roughly from just west of Old Alfred Road and New Road 3.19 miles to the intersection with Stoney Brook Lane in Lyman, the speed limit will be 50 mph.

• The speed limit will be 55 mph from the Route 35 intersection to a half mile beyond Drown Road in Alfred, about 4.81 miles.

• The Route 111 speed has been set at 45 mph near Drown Road in Alfred west to the intersection with Kennebunk Road.

• From Kennebunk Road to the Route 202 intersection in Alfred, which is less than half-a-mile, the speed will be 40 mph.

Speed limits along Route 202/4A from Alfred to Sanford will be:

• From the Route 202 intersection in Alfred to Stearns Lane, about half-amile, the speed limit will be 40 mph.
