Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies as well as Standish Fire and EMS responded to Route 35 in Standish Wednesday at 3:50 p.m. for a report of a single vehicle crash involving downed electrical wires. Traffic is urged to avoid the area into the early evening.

When the first deputy arrived he found live power lines down on a passenger vehicle, according to Capt. Don Goulet. A male driver, identified as Michael Leavitt, 28, of Raymond, and his female passenger, Talisha Goodine-Mitchell, 28, of Westbrook, were the only occupants of the vehicle. It took some time to remove Goodine-Mitchell due to the active power lines, Goulet said. She was transported to Maine Medical Center with critical injuries.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash, and Route 35 between Route 237 and Whites Bridge Road will be closed for several hours. The crash remains under investigation.
