When he devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. Luke 4:13
Resisting Temptation
Temptations are sure to come, and they are not just a once in a while event. We are faced with temptation day in and day out. The devil is at work trying to turn us away from God, so when we resist temptation it is a victory. It firms up our faith and strengthens our spiritual muscles. God tests those whom he wishes to use in special ways, and most of the time we are tempted through our gifts, for we are tempted to use our gifts to control and not serve one another as God would have us do. It is where we are the strongest that we must forever be on guard. Jesus went into the wilderness to be alone with God, to be tested and strengthened for his ministry. From the beginning of his life to the end, Jesus had to fight his own battles against temptation, and so he can help us fight ours. So let us seek out our own wilderness experience, spending time alone with God to learn what his plan for us is. And remember that we are not alone. Jesus has been there. He knows what it is like. He will walk with us, and we will not get lost.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
