DAYTON — The second annual Dayton Community Day will bring a host of fun, family-friendly activities to the center of town on Saturday.

The Dayton Community Day began last year as a fundraiser for the town’s Parks and Recreation Committee. Parks and Recreation Committee member Jennifer Harriman said the committee hopes to grow the event each year and increase the offerings of activities.

“This year, we’re adding a kid’s obstacle course, which will be really fun,” said Harriman. “It’s just a great way for the community to get together.”

The fun will begin at 2 p.m. with a tractor, bicycle and wagon parade, which will commence at the town municipal building and end behind the Dayton Consolidated School, where the rest of the activities will take place until 5 p.m.

A suggested donation of $5 per family will include carnival games, duct tape crafts, a Tae Kwon Do demonstration, a police K9 demonstration, demonstrations from the Goodwin’s Mills Fire Department and other activities.

Goodwin’s Mills Fire Chief Roger Hooper said the department will bring its newest fire engine for display. The department will also have a trailer with a smoke simulator to teach children fire safety and how to get out of a burning house.

Firefighters will also conduct a gas fire demo, and will simulate a fire of a home gas tank and extinguish it, said Hooper.

LaDawn Quarter Horses will provide pony rides from 3-5 p.m. for $10. Other activities, including a bounce house, children’s obstacle course, face painting and snack shack, will be priced separately.
