On Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, we lost an amazing soul. This soul was attached to a man named Rodney Hoverson. He was 54, and hailed from Harpswell, Maine. The son of Helen and Donald Hoverson.

Rodney was survived by his daughter Dustine Graves, his granddaughter Leah Hoverson, his brother Donald Hoverson, his aunt Linda and her husband uncle Michael (Mickey) Yanok, his uncle David Mercier, his lifelong love and mother of his child Jo-Anna Graves and his godson Mason Warren. He was also survived by his closest friends Robbie, Joe, Chris and many others. So many we do not have the space to name, but you know who you are.

Rodney was a man of the sea. The ocean was his one and only true home and he was never far from it (except when he was thinning the deer population). When he wasn’t fishing offshore you would find him striper fishing at the head of the Mill Pond. Fishing wasn’t just his career it was his passion, his life, his love! But there was more to Rodney than just fishing.

He was a great man with a big heart under a gruff exterior, always there to help a friend in need. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his daughter, his granddaughter or his friends. If he had it to give he would give it. He worked hard and played harder. He lived life to the fullest with no regrets. He will be more than missed!!!

There are really no words to describe the loss of a great father, grandfather, friend and fisherman. My father was one-of-a-kind. He was loved by so many. More than he knew. I love you so much Dad and we will see you later.

A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, Sept. 6 from noon to 4 p.m. at Erica’s Seafood on Basin Point Road.
