Biddeford police on Sunday evening released the name of the man who drove his minivan through a window of the Dunkin’ Donuts on Spruce Street Saturday morning.

Deputy Chief JoAnne Fisk identified the driver as Anthony Canario, 81, of Saco. Fisk said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Biddeford police said the minivan plowed through a window and traveled about 20 feet into a dining area of the coffee shop. Owner Steve Sparangis said the restaurant was filled with customers at the time of the crash – around 10:10 a.m.

Emergency responders said six people, including Canario, were taken to local hospitals with non life-threatening injuries. Sparangis said a table stopped the minivan from hitting a customer.

Fisk said she did not have any information on the names of those other than Canario who were taken to local hospitals.
