The Maine State Prison is looking for a new warden.
The Maine Department of Corrections posted a job advertisement on its website this week seeking a warden for the state’s largest prison, which is in Warren. The application period is listed as Aug. 24-28.
Rodney Bouffard, the current warden, has been promoted to associate commissioner of the corrections department, said Jody Breton, the department’s deputy commissioner.
Interviews to fill the position will be conducted next week, Breton said.
“I’m thinking right after Labor Day we’ll have somebody selected,” she said. “Until then, Mr. Bouffard will stay down there and help train the next replacement before coming to Augusta.”
Cynthia Brann, the previous associate commissioner, has moved to New York, Breton said.
Bouffard became warden of the Maine State Prison in 2013. He replaced Patricia Barnhart, who was fired in January 2013 after a little more than three years on the job.
Before becoming warden of the state prison, Bouffard was superintendent of the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.
“He has a long history in management and so will be a great addition to our team,” Breton said.
The Maine State Prison has a capacity of 916 inmates and 410 staffers, according to its website.
The new warden will be required to have at least 12 years of education and experience in correctional programs or post-graduate education in criminal justice, law enforcement, business or public administration or a related field, plus seven years of experience, according to the job posting.
The job pays between $76,232 and $104,956 a year, according to the posting.
