
Despite forecasted rain, the weather at Wiscasset Speedway was fine last Saturday night. Fans and drivers gathered, and a great show full of racing action ensued.
On the agenda was the group one division of racing — New England Four Cylinder Prostock, Prostock, Thunder Four Mini’s and NAPA Super Street. The flex race of the week was the Wicked Good Vintage Racers, presenting two races.

First on the track were the New England Four Cylinder Prostocks in a Spotlighted 35-lap feature race. Starting at the pole was Connor Wenners. To his right was Bob Patten and in third Cameron Folsom, who had a rough start when he spun out, forcing him to the back of the field. Cody Billings advanced into third on the restart.
On the opening lap, Billings passed Patten for second on turn four. During lap four, Brooke Knowles passed Patten on the inside for third. Knowles went high during lap 11 and attempted to pass Billings. However, she couldn’t complete the pass and Craig Dunn moved inside and passed her for third during lap 14. There was a caution during lap 18 when Jacob Hendsbee spun. Hendsbee went to the back. When racing resumed, Billings was slow off the start and traffic jammed up behind him, giving those in the inside lane a clear run to the front. Wenners remained in the lead, with Dunn advancing to second and Jeff Prindall to third.
Lap 21 saw Dunn head to the outside to pass Wenners, but he failed to complete the pass and Prindall was able to get inside of him. Dunn initially took the lead when racing action resumed on the track, with Prindall and Alex Waltz in hot pursuit. Prindall passed Dunn for the lead during lap 25. Waltz passed Dunn for second during lap 28. Wenners came back from behind and passed Dunn on turn three for third during lap 28.
Wenners spun coming out of turn four during lap 31 and it brought out the caution. Dunn advanced to third. On the ensuing restart, Waltz passed Prindall on the outside of turn four for the lead. However, Prindall fought back and the pair raced door to door around the track. Prindall took the lead back during lap 33, but still the pair battled at the front. Behind, Hendsbee passed Dunn for third.
During the final lap, Prindall and Waltz got loose and made contact. The pair spun onto the front stretch. Hendsbee went around them and took the checkered for the win. Kamren Knowles placed second and Patten placed third.
The Wicked Good Vintage Racers were next with a 20-lap feature. The first race was a Late Model and Modified feature. Starting at the pole was Dean Grant, with Steve Kahler in second and Dennis Fish in third.
During the opening laps, Kahler and Fish battled for second. Kahler ultimately kept his spot and then challenged Grant for the lead. During lap nine, Kahler passed Grant for first. There was a lot of movement and shuffling for position. Fish fell behind and Bobby Symonds advanced to third. Grant slipped back and the Mark Theranault moved into second, passing Symonds.
Steve Reny was moving up quickly from his last-place start. During lap 10, he passed Symonds for third. During the same lap, he quickly passed both Theranault and Kahler and took the lead. Symonds passed Kahler for second during lap 11. There was a caution during lap 13, and on the restart, Jody Lewis passed Kahler for third. However, Lewis spun out and a caution was called during lap 16.
Kevin Waterhouse advanced to third. When racing action resumed, Waterhouse went into a spin coming out of turn one. Kahler struck Waterhouse and flipped into the turn two wall, bringing out a red flag caution. Kahler walked away unharmed.
Keith Smalley advanced to third for the restart. However, during lap 17, Theranault passed Smalley for third on the inside of turn two. Race leaders remained constant from there, with Reny taking the win. Symonds placed second and Theranault finished in third.
The Wicked Good Vintage Racers presented the Outlaw Class next. This 20-lap event began with Scott Tucker on the pole. To his right in the second starting position was Ryan Chadwick, with Arthur Hannaford in third. When the green flag flew over the track, Chadwick quickly took the lead. Tucker fell back and Paul Pierce advanced to second. Pierce then passed Chadwick for the lead.
During lap four, Bob Guyon passed Tucker for third. However, coming quickly from the back was James Osmond, who passed Guyon for third during lap six. Osmond then passed Chadwick for second during lap nine. Osmond kept coming, passing Pierce on lap 11 for the lead. Once Osmond had the lead, he never relinquished it. Osmond took the win, with Pierce in second and Chadwick taking third.
A 40-lap Prostock feature was the next crowd pleaser. Starting at the pole was Wyatt Alexander. In second was Scott Chubbuck and in third Mike Orr. Off the start, Chubbuck passed Alexander on the inside of turn two for the lead. Jeff Burgess passed Orr on turn two during lap four for third. During lap 12, Alexander headed to the outside in a bid for the lead but failed to make the pass. While on the outside, Burgess moved up behind Chubbuck and Alexander slipped to third.
There was a caution during lap 24 when Orr and Charlie Colby made contact. On the restart, Alexander and Burgess raced for second, and Alexander, on the inside, had the advantage and took the spot. Burgess moved to third.
There was another caution during lap 29 as Ajay Picard flipped. When racing action resumed, Alexander and Chubbuck raced for the lead, with Chubbuck ultimately pulling ahead. Burgess also went under Alexander and took second. Race order remained constant through the finish, with Chubbuck in first, Burgess in second and Alexander third.
Wiscasset’s entry level class, the Thunder Four Mini’s, were next on the track, participating in a 20-lap feature event. Starting on the pole was Jeff Minchin Jr. Behind him was Michael Golding, and in third David Greenleaf. When racing began, there was some early action. David Cook passed Greenleaf on the inside of turn two for third. There was a caution during lap three. When racing resumed, Cook continued his advance and passed Golding on the inside for second. Golding fell back another position when Leandra Martin passed him on the inside of turn three during lap four.
Cook set his sights on the lead and passed Minchin on the inside of turn four during lap 14. Minchin fell back when Martin passed him during lap 15 for second. Coming up from behind was Cody Tribbet. who started in eighth. He passed Minchin during lap 15 for third. Cook claimed his first Thunder Four win at Wiscasset this season. Point leader Martin, placed second and coming in third was Tribbet.
Rounding out the evening’s entertainment was a 25-lap NAPA Super Street feature race. Starting at the pole was Jamie Norton, to his right David Doherty and behind them starting third was Zac Poland. Doherty took the lead during the opening lap. Jason Curtis moved up to second and Josh Bailey advanced to third.
There was a caution during lap 16 when Kenny Harrison went off the track. When racing action resumed, Curtis took the lead. Doherty was slow to start and Dan Trask went outside and ran up the track to second. Mark Lucas followed Trask and took third. Lucas moved to the outside during lap 20 and passed Trask on the outside for second. There were no additional leader changes throughout the race. Curtis took his first NAPA Super Street win at Wiscasset this season. Lucas placed second and Trask finished in third.
Wiscasset Speedway resumes racing action this upcoming Saturday, with pit gates open at 2 p.m., and the grandstand at 4 p.m. Racing begins at 6 p.m.
