LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES: Devin Obee hit a three-run home run to help Bowling Green, Kentucky, beat Portland, Oregon, 7-5 in an elimination game in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

In other losers’-bracket games it was: Sydney 3, Santiago de los Caballero 0; and Taipei, Taiwan 16, White Rock, British Columbia 4 in four innings. In the late game, Cranston, Rhode Island, defeated Webb City, Missouri, 6-3.

Australia beat the Dominican Republic 3-0.

TENNIS

WESTERN & SOUTHERN: Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer will meet in the final in Cincinnati.

In semifinal play, Djokovic pulled away to a 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 victory over Alexandr Dolgopolov while Federer, the defending champion, beat Andy Murray, 6-4, 7-6 (6).

Djokovic has never won the Western & Southern – the only one of the nine ATP Masters to elude him.

Federer is trying for an unprecedented seventh title in Cincinnati.

VOLLEYBALL

WORLD CUP: Foluke Akinradewo scored 15 points as the United States started the women’s tournament with a straight-sets win over South Korea in Matsumoto, Japan. Kimberly Hill added 13 points as the U.S. won, 25-15, 25-22, 25-15.

HIGH SCHOOLS: Officials halted the season-opening game Friday between two Indiana schools, host Michigan City High School and South Bend Washington High, after a fight broke out on the field.

The Michigan City News-Dispatch reported the fight started late in the first half after a Washington player was penalized for a late hit. The game had to be halted because so many players were ejected that neither team would have been able to field a full lineup.

HARNESS RACING

WALTER H. HIGHT INVITATIONAL: Heath Campbell made his push down the final stretch, pushing Wheelaway to victory at the Skowhegan State Fair.

Warrawee Nonsuch placed second while favorite A Sweet Ride was third.

A Sweet Ride entered as a big favorite with eight wins in 26 starts this year. One of his wins came in the Paul Bunyan Invitational on July 20.

CYCLING

USA PRO CHALLENGE: Roman Kreuziger survived an early breakaway to win Stage 6 in Fort Collins, Colorado, while Rohan Dennis finished in the main pack to retain his overall lead.

Kreuziger was able to sprint past Javier Megias and Leonardo Basso to win the stage.

Dennis was 44 seconds back but remained in the yellow jersey with one stage left.
