Heinz off base with support of weir
The purpose of this letter is to respond to the column published in the July 17 edition of the Lakes Region Weekly titled “Fishing Lines: Sebago Lake-Crooked River System a Unique Asset,” by Steve Heinz.
The column incorrectly states that a portable fish weir will be installed this fall in the Crooked River.
According to Francis Brautigam, regional fisheries biologist, the proposed fish weir will not be installed in 2015 due to fall staff commitments to other projects.
While the proper staffing of the proposed weir is a serious concern, the problems the weir will create by interrupting the free and clear passage that currently exists for the spawning salmon remains the primary concern for myself and others. As conservation chair for the Sebago chapter of Trout Unlimited, I find Steve Heinz’s apparent support of the weir to be misguided.

Windham delegation united to serve
I am both pleased and proud to serve as a member of the Windham Legislative Delegation. We are two Democrats and one Republican, one serving in the Senate and two serving in the House of Representatives. We have pledged to our Windham constituents that we will work together, avoiding partisan politics, to do whatever is best for the people in our community.
The three of us have been and will continue to work on several important issues including working with state agencies to improve local traffic safety conditions in various parts of town and educating the public about the dangers of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.
Our close working relationship, in spite of political party differences, reinforces our priority that our constituents come first. It’s my privilege to serve with state Representatives Mark Bryant and Patrick Corey as we deal with the issues important to Windham.
