Two Maine productions of the classic holiday ballet “The Nutcracker” have scheduled auditions for young dancers in early September.
The Maine State Ballet will hold auditions for its production on Sept. 11 and 12, while the Portland Ballet will have auditions for its “Victorian Nutcracker” on Sept. 12.
Maine State Ballet’s auditions will be held at its studio, 348 U.S. Route One in Falmouth. Auditions will be held on Sept. 11 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for ages 13 to 15, and from 6 to 7 p.m. for ages 16 and up. On Sept. 12, auditions will be held for grades 2 and 3 from noon to 1:15 p.m., grades 4 and 5 from 2 to 2:45 p.m., and grades 6 and 7 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The Maine State Ballet’s “Nutcracker” will run from Nov. 28 to Dec. 6 at Merrill Auditorium in Portland. The audition fee is $10. For more information go to Mainestateballet.org.
Portland Ballet’s auditions will be held at its studio at 517 Forest Ave. in Portland. The audition day will begin with a warm-up class for dancers 12 and up from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Registration for that group will be 11:30 a.m. to noon, followed by auditions from noon to 1:30 p.m.
A warm-up class for ages 9 to 11 will run from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Registration for ages 7 to 11 will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m., followed by auditions for that age group from 2 to 3:30 p.m. (There is no warm-up period for the youngest dancers.)
Portland Ballet’s “Victorian Nutcracker” will run Dec. 12 and 13 at Westbrook Performing Arts Center, and Dec. 16 at Merrill Auditorium. The audition fee is $10. For more information email info@portlandballet.org.
