Camp Sunshine, a camp in South Casco for children and their families struggling with life-threatening diseases, recently announced a partnership with Paramount Pictures and online fundraising giant Omaze involving the upcoming film “Star Trek Beyond”.
Each cast member from the movie selected a charity to be beneficiary of the proceeds raised from the campaign. Camp Sunshine was selected by cast member Anton Yelchin, who plays Chekob in the film.
Camp Sunshine will use the funds in support of it Family Sponsorship Program, which ensures that there is never a charge to participating families.
“We couldn’t be more pleased, and humbled, by the commitment of the cast to change the lives of ill children and their families around the world. We are equally excited to be able to boldly go forward and serve even more families through this partnership,” said Michael Katz, Camp Sunshine’s executive director.
This past June, Camp Sunshine was contacted through one of their volunteers with the opportunity to participate in the campaign. “Star Trek” is one of the most widely known movie franchises internationally.
