PORTLAND — U.S. Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, and former U.S. Sen. George J. Mitchell will host a forum Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the University of Southern Maine to discuss the nuclear weapons limitation agreement with Iran.
The free, public forum comes about a month in advance of when the Senate is expected to vote on the agreement reached by the United States, its partners, Iran, and the European Union to limit Iran’s nuclear program.
King, who is a member of the Senate Armed Services and Intelligence Committees, last week announced his intention to support the agreement. Mitchell, who has served as Senate majority leader and special Middle East envoy, has also announced his support for the deal.
The 5:30-7 p.m. forum at Talbot Lecture Hall, 85 Bedford St., will be sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Maine, the Mid-Coast Forum on Foreign Relations, and the Maine Chapter of the United Nations Association-USA.
