A Harrison man was killed in a lone car crash on Route 117 in Harrison Monday night.

Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies responding to an emergency call at around 6:50 p.m. met a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, at 92 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone. Since the deputies were already assigned to the first call, they continued on to the scene, according to a press release issued by the sheriff’s office Tuesday morning.

Moments later, the deputies were informed of a single motor vehicle crash on Route 117 in Harrison. It was reported that the operator of the vehicle involved in the crash had been ejected from the vehicle. Moments later, a member of the Harrison Fire Department arrived on scene and found the lone occupant and operator of the motor vehicle deceased.

Witnesses to the crash reported that the vehicle struck a guard rail and flipped about a dozen times.

Deputies responding to the scene discovered that the vehicle involved in the crash was the same vehicle observed traveling at 92 mph moments before when they were responding to the original emergency call.

The driver, Kenneth K. Bryant, 31, from Harrison, was the only occupant and was not wearing a seatbelt. Bryant also had a suspended license.

Speed and alcohol are believed to be a factor in the crash, which is being re-constructed by the sheriff’s office.
