An 18-year-old and a juvenile who were arrested last month in a stranger’s summer home in Waterboro are now accused of being part of a burglary ring that targeted summer homes in several towns.
Samantha Coan, 18, of Waterboro and the juvenile were arrested July 27 at 52 Long Causeway, where sheriff’s deputies found them in the home without authorization, said York County Sheriff William King Jr.
“Investigation revealed that the individuals had forced entry into the house,” King said.
Investigators later connected the pair to four other burglaries – one in Waterboro, two in Shapleigh and one in Newfield, King said.
Deputies also identified a second juvenile boy and two juvenile girls as suspects in the break-ins, he said.
Coan has been charged with one count of burglary and posted $500 cash bail. She is scheduled to appear in York County Superior Court in Alfred on Sept. 29. Three of the four juveniles have been released to the custody of their parents and await proceedings in juvenile court. Authorities anticipate bringing charges against the fourth juvenile soon, King said.
Deputies have recovered several stolen items and are now trying to determine which items were stolen from which houses.
