Icon Contemporary Art, at 19 Mason St. in Brunswick, will open a new exhibition of framed works on paper and Mylar by Amparo Carvajal-Hufschmid and Claire Seidl with a reception for the artists from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
The exhibit will highlight the creative strategies the artists have in common, but the end results are quite different.
Seidl’s work includes a dozen abstract drawings done on Mylar, and reflect a consciousness of the natural world of the Rangeley area, where she works when she’s not in her New York studio.
Carvajal-Hufschmid of Alton, New Hampshire refers to her layered work as assemblages – abstract pieces that deal with color, texture and geometry.
She makes the handmade paper she uses in her art.
Gallery hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The show continues through Sept. 12.
