A Lincoln man pleaded guilty Friday to federal charges of possessing firearms by an unlawful user of the synthetic drug known as bath salts.

Bruce Smith, 58, entered the plea in U.S. District Court in Bangor.

According to court records, Smith possessed seven firearms at the same time he was regularly using Alpha-PVP, which is commonly known as bath salts. According to federal authorities, he was using the drugs between January and April 2014, and during that period he was found in possession of guns on three different occasions.

Smith faces up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and up to three years of supervised release. He will be sentenced after the U.S. Probation Office completes a presentencing report.
