AUGUSTA — Projects in Brunswick and on Chebeague Island are among 11 in the state awarded coastal community planning grants.

The funds, from the state Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry’s Maine Coastal Program, total nearly $250,000. Each recipient provides at least 25 percent in matching funds or services.

Brunswick is receiving nearly $48,000 for assessment and community engagement of the Mare Brook Watershed. The brook runs through a residential portion of town, crosses Brunswick Landing, and then runs through public conversation land before emptying into Harpswell Cove.

Chebeague is receiving $10,000 for a coastal hazards and adaptation study. The funds will determine whether the Stone Pier, which is increasingly impacted by coastal storms, should be rebuilt and expanded, or whether an alternative landing should be found.
