FREEPORT
Freeport Police are reporting a bank robbery that took place on Monday, Aug. 3, at 2:48 p.m.
According to police, a man entered Norway Savings Bank at 8 Mallett Drive, displayed a hand gun and demanded cash from a teller.
No one was injured but an undisclosed amount of money was stolen, said police.
The man fled the bank in the direction of Interstate 295. Detectives from Freeport and Brunswick police departments investigated the crime scene, and Freeport’s K-9 unit performed a search.
Police are asking anyone in the area of Main Street or Mallett Drive with information that could help solve the crime to contact Det. Gino Bianchini at (207) 865-4800.
This is the second time in recent weeks that a Freeport bank has been robbed.
Jimmy Odong of Portland is being charged with robbing Key Bank on Main Street at gunpoint on July 17. Odong, who had reportedly been involved with an alleged carjacking in Portland earlier that day, was apprehended near the University of Southern Maine July 23.
